Calling the Ancestors
Recently I went to the Scott Galvin Community Center and was able to celebrate with AHED and see the Afrikin Art Fair.
Perfectly in alignment with a the Mercury retrograde in Capricorn I believe ancestral art is a perfect manifestation. Capricorn which rules Saturn a painting or collage or beaded chair takes time and consistent motion. Mercury the expression of self also to me spiritual downloads and memory.
The beauty and the conversation the art holds. I’ve been at a stand still with my own art. It’s officially en el proximo año check back. My brain has slowly checked out. Yet the art communes with me and what a delight as these contemporary artists match some of the historical art in the Detroit Museum of Art.
All of my photos are now on IG https://www.instagram.com/p/C1LZb2eNn3l/
This artwork is called “Calling the Ancestors” (below) I have enjoyed the different layers of tangible curves and bumps and textures. The exhibit opened during Basel and deadlines swallowed up my capacity to partake with the Afrofuturism exhibits in Little Haiti and I believe Opa Locka.
My manuscript is in tune with this art and also hopes to convey and capture generational souls searching to be called within artwork.
A few days between the transition anniversary and my Mami Tomasa’s birthday. Living a reconnection between old life times and this current one. Sometimes we are a hallway of experiences and love which many means doors open to grief. To be held by our ancestors. These art pieces are a reminder of all the ways we are possible. We have been and continue to be.
Alongside the staircase I was led to through a story. You can find beaded chairs, elders, and some familiar and unfamiliar faces—culture the thread that keeps looping into me. Maybe this time ancestors and artists call to me.
For anyone wanting to go see it — it ends Dec 31. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/afrikin-art-fair-2023-art-basel-miami-art-week-tickets-775210163467
